Hypertension is a term that refers to high blood pressure. High blood pressure is defined by the pressure and force that blood is released in the blood vessels. High blood pressure is measured with systolic and diastolic levels and any systolic number above 130 and any diastolic number above 80 is considered hypertension. Hypertension can be genetic but it is mostly caused by poor diet, lack of exercise, and high stress environments. Hypertension can lead to further complications that can decrease life span. These complications include heart failure, heart attacks, and strokes.

Hypertension Management and Treatment
There are three main steps in achieving an improved hypertension diagnosis: Step 1: Exercise/Lifestyle changes -Exercising regularly to maintain a healthy weight. Exercise is very important to maintain regular blood pressure levels. Walking, jogging, and swimming are all exercises that can decrease hypertension. -Stress reduction, such as yoga and meditation, can help control high blood pressure. Step 2: Diet changes -Eating less salt, moderating alcohol consumption, and reducing fat intake. -Eating more vegetables and whole grain high fiber foods. Step 3: Contacting medical professionals (nutritionists, primary care physicians, Imani Clinic Health Education Program) -Talking to a doctor about lifestyle and dietary changes. -Coming into the Imani Clinic and asking to speak to a certified health education expert. - 2425 Alhambra Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95817
